Found this one was listed on Craigslist as being offered for sale by the owner in Eugene, Oregon. With this red exterior over the white vinyl interior, quite the eye-catcher on the road. The 1972 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible carries a 351ci Cleveland V8 paired with an automatic transmission, which only drives 52,800 miles. This second generation of the Cougar was based on the Mustang platform, and the wheelbase was lengthened an inch over the previous generation. Styling was changed to resemble the larger Mercury Cyclone, including an aggressive center grille with four round headlights.

It would be one of the most desirable Mercury classics offered today, a taste of a Mustang with a completely different face, and also one nice car of the muscle cars' golden era.

It would have been a nice example of the Mercury Cougar XR7 equipped with one of the desirable V8 engines for 1972, its uniqueness and rarity certainly making it valuable.

1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 with the original Cleveland 351, 52,800k original miles. Upgraded to a 4barrel. Starts right up and runs and drives like a charm, reliable daily driver or a garage kept weekend ride. Recently tuned up, sounds great. Everything works, power convertible top, power windows, power seats. White interior is in great shape. White convertible top in good condition. It has the sport edition seats with the cougar emblem. Bluetooth/cd head unit for music and the previous owner put some speakers in the back door panel. Has a full size spare in the back. I have the Marti report as a PDF file I'll email that to anyone interested, not many of these still around in this condition. Asking 23,5k OBO Might consider trade.
